Media Relations Specialist
Ellen Georgiou grew up in London, studied journalism in the United States, worked as an editor at HarperCollins Publishers, a journalist for the BBC, a public relations consultant for The British Council, and a freelance journalist. Before joining iMinds in 2010 she was managing editor of a weekly newspaper in Cyprus.
Her strong journalistic experience gives her insight into the world of media relations, crafting a good story and strategic placement, and her global background a unique perspective and understanding.
She specializes in media relations, writing and project management.
At iMinds she develops strategic communications plans for our clients with an eye firmly on the bigger story to broaden outreach. She is responsible for all new business and client relations, including media strategy, research and writing communications materials.She has successfully placed stories with leading publications and television news shows.
In 2000 she took “time out” with her family to write, travel and enjoy the Mediterranean. She travelled through Italy, France, Portugal and Greece and wrote for newspapers and magazines while always focusing on the ‘story behind the story.’ As managing editor ofThe Cyprus Weekly, she focused on expanding circulation and revenue through sponsorship, strategic partnerships and special supplements.
At HarperCollins she also developed strategic corporate partnerships and worked with Nike, Bank of America, United Airlines, Visa, and British Airways after identifying them as natural partners on several book projects.
Since 2008, Ellen has worked with MEND (Meet Each Need with Dignity), one of LA’s largest anti-poverty non-profit agencies. She serves on the public relations committee and writes press releases, newsletters and annual reports for the charity and has helped the organization increase awareness of its needs and services through numerous profiles in the local media.
